Bacteria are social critters

Did you know that bacteria are social critters? A bacterium doesn’t like to be lonely. Moreover, together they are stronger. They live close together and move about in groups. This allows them to defend themselves as a group against other microorganisms. They communicate with each other through special molecules. Through these signalling molecules, they can feel how big or small the group is. This communication instrument or sensing is called “quorum sensing”.
